For Rick, learning to fly was a dream that always seemed out of reach. His engineering career and his family left rendered him a man too busy for flying, until his wife, Chris, surprised him with a gift certificate for 10 hours of flying lessons. Those exciting first hours of flight instruction validated Rick’s dream, and he went on to successfully earn his private pilot’s certificate, enjoying every minute of both the challenge and joy the opportunity brought him. Invigorated by the desire to continue realizing his dream of learning to fly, Rick furthered his flying skills by earning his Instrument Rating and Commercial Certificate.
Along the way, Rick joined the Civil Air Patrol, and while serving in this capacity he experienced the joy and satisfaction of teaching other CAP members Search and Rescue techniques, as well as the other non-piloting functions of Civil Air Patrol operations. That fulfilling experience, coupled with Rick’s enthusiasm for flying, made flight instruction a natural progression. He went on to obtain his CFI, AGI and CFII certificates. Now, as a member of the ATD Flight Systems instructor team, Rick relishes the opportunity to work with like-minded people to achieve their dream of learning to fly.
